Je navigue’raie is a non-profit organisation that conducts scientific sailing expeditions for research and scientific outreach to protect rays and sharks.
Our 3 priorities:
ABOUT
The association
Founded in 2022, Je navigue’raie was initially born from the convergence of two students’ ideas:
- Informing the general public that there are rays in the Mediterranean Sea
- Study these species that are still little known and yet endangered.
Today, we are a team of ecologists, professional divers, sailors, videographers and scientific mediators.

Discover
Our expeditions
Our expeditions, whether in the Mediterranean or elsewhere in the world, involve a mixed team of scientists, divers, mediators and experienced navigators.
Characterisation of elasmobranch species (rays and sharks) at the mouths of Corsican rivers during the summer period.
Complementarity of environmental DNA and Reef Life Survey protocols within and outside Zanzibar’s marine protected areas.
Integrated approach using environmental DNA and telemetry to monitor rays and sharks in the Cerbère-Banyuls Marine Nature Reserve.

OUR CURRENT PROJECT
EMERGE 2025-2028
This project aims to deploy the first local monitoring network for coastal rays and sharks in the French Mediterranean, centred on the Cerbère-Banyuls Reserve and linked to European monitoring networks.
To achieve this, we are combining two powerful tools:
- environmental DNA, to detect the invisible presence of these species
- and acoustic telemetry, to track their movements.
In three years, EMERGE has achieved the following:
- 120 tags to track movements
- 26 eDNA sampling sites
- 1 documentary for the general public
